Finally, “Girls Trip’s” long-awaited sequel will be released. The women are visiting Ghana this time.
Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish will all be back for the sequel, according to writer-producer Tracy Oliver.
While promoting the second season of her comedy series “Harlem” on Prime Video, which she also co-wrote, the director, who also co-wrote the 2017 smash blockbuster film, “La La Land,” revealed the wonderful news while the Sundance Film Festival was still going on.
She said in an interview with Variety Studio presented by Audible, she said, “It’s officially happening. I can say that… No one else knows this and Will Packer might kill me, but we’re looking to set it in Ghana.”
The women would be visiting Afrochella, Ghana’s largest music festival, Oliver revealed, whereas the original movie featured the group of friends heading to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.
Oliver is still revising her script, therefore a release date is not yet determined.
The R-rated comedy from 2017 earned $140.9 million worldwide. According to Variety, the movie surpassed the $100 million domestic box office threshold after four weeks.
