At the 2024 Golden Globe Awards last night, American-Nigerian actress Ayo Edebiri took home the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy award for her role as Sydney Adamu in the television series The Bear.
She competed against Rachel Brosnahan, Quinta Brunson, Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, and Natasha Lyonne for the honor.
Three of the five awards that were up for grabs were won by The Bear, a show about a competitive restaurant that is obsessed with Michelin stars. Jeremy Allen White took home the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Musical, or Comedy, and Ali Wong took home the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Television Movie.
Oppenheimer, which took up five Oscars from eight nominations, was one of the other notable winners. Barbie, who received the most nominations, was only awarded twice.
Four prizes were won by the popular HBO series Succession. Lily Gladstone, who starred in Killers of the Flower Moon, took home the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Dramatic category.
