Ciara’s next movie appearance will be in The Color Purple. She has been cast in the next musical film adaptation, according to Entertainment Weekly. In the film, Ciara will play an adult version of Nettie. Halle Bailey will also play a younger version of the character.
That’s My Boy, starring Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg, was the singer’s prior film. In the latest rendition of The Color Purple, Ciara stars with Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Louis Gossett Jr., and David Alan Grier.
Blitz Bazawule, who directed Black is King and The Burial of Kojo, will direct the film. Marcus Gardley, who has written for Tales of the City, Foundation, and The Chi, wrote the screenplay for the film. Alice Walker’s book of the same name was published in 1982, and the film is based on it. Along with her daughter Rebecca Walker, Walker will serve as executive producers on the project. It is also based on the theatre play of the same name that took place in 2005.
Oprah Winfrey, who played Sofia in the 1985 film adaptation, will also serve as a producer. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film.
The film’s producer will be Quincy Jones. Jones also worked as a producer on the 1985 film and the 2005 stage production. Scott Sanders will also serve as a producer for the film, as he did for the stage production. The film’s executive producers are Mara Jacobs, Carla Gardini, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Adam Fell.
On December 20, 2023, the film The Color Purple will be released. The film’s production is set to begin this month.
