Following death threats from outraged fans, the illustrators and painters behind DC’s new Superman comics based on a bisexual character have allegedly requested police protection.

LAPD cops were reportedly deployed to patrol several of the studios’ workers’ and illustrators’ homes, according to TMZ. Threats against the studio have also been reported, which began after word of the bisexual character went viral in October.

Remember how the studios made headlines for weeks after announcing that Jon Kent, the new Superman and son of Clark and Lois Lane, would be dating his friend Jay Nakamura after having a nervous breakdown? DC also produced artwork depicting the characters kissing.

Despite the studios’ claims that the announcement was well received, the viral photographs generated a lot of outrage online.
