Olanrewaju James, a Nollywood actor, has petitioned an Ikeja Domestic and Sexual Violence Court to give him post-conviction bail until the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal hears and decides his appeal.

Baba Ijesha received a 16-year prison term for child molesting in a July ruling by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo.

The Lagos State Government charged him with six counts, and he was found guilty of four of them.

The actor who is currently in jail was found guilty of sexual assault, attempted sexual penetration, sexual assault, and child molestation.

The defendant is serving a concurrent five-year prison sentence.

On September 14, 2022, Baba Ijesha appeared in court and requested his sentence suspension while filing an appeal.

According to Section 6(6) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, Chukwudi Adiukwu notified the court that they had applied for bail awaiting an appeal throughout the hearings.

Adiukwu claimed that subsection 51 of the Lagos State 2015 Administration of Criminal Justice Law gives the court the authority to grant bail to the applicant either unconditionally or subject to reasonable restrictions.

He said that approving their application would advance justice.
