CJ Obasi and Ayo Edebiri have been nominated for the NAACP Image Awards 2024

CJ ”Fiery” Obasi’s Nigerian epic movie, Mami Wata and American-Nigerian actress Ayo Edebiri have been nominated for the 2024 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.

The awards ceremony will air on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Mami Wata will compete in the Outstanding International Motion Picture category against Rye Lane, Brother, Anatomy of a Fall, and Society of the Snow, as per the announcement made on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

The black-and-white film, which was written and directed by Obasi, has been chosen for several international film festivals and is still riding high on the global scene.

Obasi thanked the entire audience and said that this nomination was particularly meaningful. He wrote on Twitter, saying, “This one is so special. So thankful to the @naacpimageaward for this huge honor. Thank you to my family, team, friends and supporters. This is for us.”

The category is closed to public voting, though, and the winners will be revealed on BET and CBS on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 8:00 PM.

However, Edebiri’s nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress came from her performances in Abbott Elementary and The Bear.
