Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro acknowledges a challenging match against Saudi Arabia in an international friendly today, Friday, at Estádio Municipal de Portimao, Portugal. The teams previously met in a 2010 friendly that ended in a goalless draw. Nigeria also plays Mozambique at the same venue on Monday.
Interestingly, in the previous encounter, Peseiro was coaching Saudi Arabia, but he notes that they now have a stronger squad under new Italian manager Roberto Mancini.
In an exclusive interview with PUNCH Sports Extra, Eagles coach Peseiro emphasized that the match against the Green Falcons would serve as a significant test for his team as they gear up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.
The Eagles are set to kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November.
Coach Peseiro views the upcoming match against Saudi Arabia as a valuable preparation for the World Cup qualifiers. He acknowledges Saudi Arabia’s technical quality and improved strength under new management.
Peseiro plans to use the game to enhance his team’s organization, considering the challenge posed by the strong opposition, which defeated Argentina in a first match contest in the FIFA World Cup last year.
