Nonso Amadi, a globally famous Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer based in Canada, released his first album ‘When It Blooms’.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
This 15-track album is Amadi’s first complete body of work, marking years of progress as an artist and person.
The album, released by Def Jam Recordings/Polydor Records/MCA/Universal Music Canada, portrays Amadi’s journey and weaves through the many stages of his musical self-discovery.
In the first single, ‘Here For It,’ Amadi remembers the hurdles and uncertainties he encountered early in his music career while honoring his commitment, saying, ‘na so then the plan no get plan b.’
‘NASA,’ produced by Azulwynter and FrancisGotHeat, pays respect to hip-hop musicians that affected Amadi’s early love of music, such as 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and Ja Rule, and lyrically explores leveling up the dream from one stage of life to the next.
‘Kilimanjaro’, a noteworthy hit, features BEAM, who has previously worked with Justin Bieber, Jorja Smith, and Beyonce. While ‘Night In Maryland’ has nostalgic importance for Amadi, it also captures late night recording in Lagos, Nigeria; the traffic, the lights, and the internal fight.
Donisha Prendergast, Bob Marley’s granddaughter, gave an incredible message at the close of ‘Night in Maryland,’ urging me to trust in my destiny and prepare for the flowering.
As a delightfully personal conclusion, Amadi’s mother gives a message of pride for Amadi’s maturation in ‘Thankful,’ an act of concluding appreciation for the community of supporters who helped bring this project to reality.
When It Blooms also includes five previously released singles, including ‘Foreigner,’ which marked the epic return after a hiatus, and the collaborative track ‘Different’ ft. Majid Jordan, an alliance that has garnered over 19 million global streams, ‘Eye To Eye,’ which received critical acclaim, the patriotic single ‘Ease Up,’ and the latest collaboration ‘Lock Up’ ft. Those five songs have received over 50 million streams in total.
Nonso Amadi will perform ‘When It Blooms’ Life at summer events such as the Mural Festival in Montreal on June 10.
