After the assassination of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, who represented Aguata II district in the Anambra State House of Assembly, gunmen have pledged to assassinate additional politicians in the state.
The lawmaker’s head, which was abducted on Sunday, May 15, 2022, in Aguata, was discovered with a letter seven days later in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Daily Trust, the assassins claimed more heads will tumble in the message.
Murders and arson by gunmen who assault police stations and set fire to government assets in the southeast, particularly in Anambra state, have lately increased.
According to a local who talked with the media, the message says, “everywhere you go, you cannot hide anywhere. We will go after you one by one because soldiers and police is (sic) no longer our problem.”
In his address, the governor extended an olive branch to the hoodlums who kidnap, murder, and damage property in the state, yet the shooters continue to target local government districts and public facilities.
Gunmen have recently targeted four local government headquarters in Anambra.
Hence, Soludo recently encouraged state residents not to be alarmed by gunmen’s threat to target other local government regions.
The governor promised the people of the state of appropriate safety and protection in a statement last week, saying that security services and the state administration are working together round the clock to ensure law and order.
