Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is hosting a world press conference today, addressing the persistent fake certificate allegations against President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Dele Momodu, a spokesperson for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the previous election, confirmed via Twitter on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, that the upcoming conference will be broadcasted on his social media channels and covered live by both international and local media networks.
The purpose of Atiku’s press conference remains unclear, but it could be related to the ongoing litigation over President Tinubu’s alleged fake certificate, a contentious issue between the two political rivals. Following his defeat to Tinubu in the February 2023 presidential election, Atiku pursued legal action by challenging Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).
In September, the court dismissed former VP Atiku’s petitions and upheld Tinubu’s election. One of Atiku’s dismissed petitions accused President Tinubu of forging his Chicago State University certificate.
After the tribunal ruling, Atiku pursued his case in the US court, seeking official documents to support his claim against Tinubu. Simultaneously, he approached the Supreme Court for a final ruling on the February 25 presidential election. The legal battle concerning Tinubu’s academic records at Chicago State University has dominated Nigerian headlines recently. Despite the widespread coverage and social media trends, Atiku remained silent. However, with his upcoming world press conference today, Nigerians eagerly anticipate his statement on the matter.
