Anambra Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Crosses Party Lines, Joins APC from YPP

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of Anambra South Senatorial District has officially left the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ubah, the lone YPP representative in the current Senate, publicly declared his party switch yesterday on the Senate floor, under the leadership of Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio. Senator Akpabio read Ubah’s formal letter announcing the decision.

In his letter, Ubah pointed to “irreconcilable differences” within the YPP as the main cause for his defection, highlighting a rift within the opposition party. Following the letter’s reading, the Senate President promptly assigned Ubah a new seat, signifying his change in political allegiance.

Ubah’s defection carries substantial implications for the Senate’s power dynamics. The shift bolsters the APC’s Senate majority to 60 members, solidifying the ruling party’s control and influence over legislative matters.
