All of the police stations burned in the state during last year’s EndSARS protests are now being renovated, according to Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu.
News Agency of Nigeria
Odumosu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that some of the police stations had been built and were now ready to begin operations.
During the EndSARS protests in October 2020, more than 20 police stations in the state were set ablaze, according to NAN.
Orile, Amukoko, Layeni, Ilasamaja, Ikotun, Ajah, Igando, Elemoro, Makinde, Onipanu, Ebute-Ero, Pen Cinema, Isokoko, and Alade were among the police stations affected.
Cele, Igbo-Elerin, Shibiri, Gbagada, Onilekere, Makoko, Daleko, Asahun, Makinyo, Amuwo-Odofin, and the Charly Boy Bus Stop Anti-Kidnapping Station were among the others.
Since the incident, some of the stations have been deserted, while others are still in use, with canopies provided by people or the Police Community Relations Committees in their local locations.
NAN also claims that the infamous Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has been dismantled and replaced with a new unit, with all of its members sent to other beats within the police force.
The Federal and State Governments, as well as police authorities, are working on the renovation project, according to Odumosu.
“An approval has been given by the federal government and the police authorities as well as the state government.
“The state government and the police are in charge of supervising the construction, because it has to be in conformity with the police standard.
“The technical officers and engineers are from the state government, while we also have engineers from various companies. So, it is a joint effort,” he said.
