According to La Liga president Javier Tebas, Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain will play for Real Madrid in the upcoming season.
After years of failed attempts, Madrid is set to sign the 25-year-old France captain, who stated last week that he is leaving PSG at the end of his contract this summer. He did not indicate where he would be going.
“If they’ve signed a five-year deal, he has five seasons of opportunity (to win the Champions League).”
Mbappe is expected to join a highly talented Madrid squad led by Vinicius Junior of Brazil and Jude Bellingham of England.
Los Blancos easily won the Spanish championship, and on June 1 at Wembley, they will play Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final.
“Mbappe is one of the best players in the world, but Vinicius and Bellingham are there too, Madrid will have a great squad,” continued Tebas. “But that does not guarantee you will win leagues.”
With 256 goals, Mbappe holds the record for most goals scored by PSG. He cost 180 million euros ($194 million) to join PSG from Monaco in 2017.
He finished second to Bayern Munich in the 2020 Champions League despite winning six French league titles with PSG.
Mbappe’s odds of winning club football’s most coveted prize would increase if he joined Real Madrid, the record 14-time champions.
