A 35-year-old woman and mother of seven, Alena Maze, has set the world record of becoming the first black woman to earn a PhD in Survey Methodology.
Maze, a well-known YouTuber, graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in the United States with a doctorate in survey methodology and statistics.
She announced this on social media, posting on Facebook and Instagram. She also mentioned that at first, the accomplishment seemed impossible, but she managed to overcome it.
Maze’s enthusiasm for both health and mathematics motivated her to become a survey statistician in order to advance inclusivity in surveys.
She graduated from Bowie State University in the United States with a bachelor’s degree in pure mathematics.
She then went on to Georgetown University to receive a master’s degree in mathematics before pursuing a doctorate.
Speaking about her academic prowess as a doctorate degree holder in survey methodology, Maze said, “What’s a Survey Methodologist? Well, I’m a Survey Statistician, so specifically, I research the math behind surveys.”
When the scholar was 13 years old, she fell in love with her Korean-American husband, Joe Lee, and shared her amazing story of her married life with PopSugar.
They, however, lost contact, and reconnected again when they were a little older, but unfortunately there was a second time of losing touch.
Their love ultimately blossomed after their third reunion, and they now create content for their vlogs with their kids, sharing their experiences as a multicultural blended family.
According to reports, Maze has been balancing her doctoral studies with her married life, raising her seven children, and vlogging for almost six years. The 35-year-old mother and wife explained her success by attributing it to God and hard work.
