Afrobeats superstar Rema has cancelled his scheduled performances for the rest of 2023 to focus on his health.
With numerous records under his belt, the Mavin Records star has had an incredible year. His incredible run was recently capped off by a headline performance that left the O2 Arena in awe on November 14.
However, while he recuperates from fatigue, fans who had hoped to celebrate Detty December with him will have to wait until the following year.
“Breaks my heart to say that I won’t be performing anywhere this December. It’s been years of touring, and I’ve ignored my health. I need time to recuperate. 2024, we go again,” he posted on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
Rema’s abrupt announcement is a major setback for his scheduled December homecoming tour of Abuja, Lagos, and his native Benin, which followed triumphant tours in Europe, Asia, and North America.
Additionally, he was scheduled to play at the Hey Neighbor Music Festival in South Africa, which was set for December 8–10.
The decision to postpone his performances comes in the wake of his song “Calm Down” becoming the highest charting song on Spotify and Apple Music.
The song achieved the highest ranking for an African song on the chart when it placed 12th out of the top 100 globally streamed songs on Apple Music in the previous year.
