Ice Prince was detained for allegedly assaulting a police officer some days ago.

Paul Okoye of PSquare, a popular Nigerian musical group, has joined the number of Nigerians who have expressed outrage at Ice Prince’s imprisonment.
On Sunday, September 4, 2022, the musician remarked in a post-broadcast on his Instagram Stories that he would think a police officer was a kidnapper if the officer got into his car and told him to leave.
“The only reason a police officer will stop you and enter your car is just because they are looking for an avenue to negotiate for a crime you did not commit,” he wrote.
“As long as a policeman enters my car and tells me to drive, he’s a criminal or kidnapper.”
Ice Prince was detained for allegedly assaulting a police officer just days before Okoye’s post.
In a statement made public, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, claimed that the musician kidnapped and threatened to kill an officer after the latter was pulled over for driving without a license.
“At 3 am today, @Iceprincezamani was stopped for driving without license plates. He agreed to be taken to the station. He, thereafter, abducted the police officer in his car, assaulted him, and threatened to throw him in the river. He has been arrested and would be arraigned today,” he tweeted.
The musician was eventually charged and put in custody at the Ikoyi Prison until his bail requirements were fulfilled.
