Tinubu Appoints Hafsat Bakari as CEO of NFIU

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Hafsat Bakari as the CEO of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

Bakari is a lawyer and financial intelligence expert with years of experience in anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and counter-proliferation financing.

Hafsat ABubakar Bakari, a former Deputy Director in the NFIU, is taking over from Modibbo Hamman-Tukur. Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, made this announcement on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ngelale stated that Bakari would hold an acting position until the Senate confirmed her. He said that with years of expertise in financial intelligence, anti-money laundering, and counterterrorism financing, the new head of the NFIU is a lawyer.

The spokesperson for the president continued by stating that Hafsat held the positions of Head of the Strategy and Reorientation Unit, Head of the Board Secretariat of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and Head of the General Services Unit at various points in time (EFCC).

“The President anticipates that Bakari will bring her wealth of experience and expertise to full discharge in this critical role.

“Especially in view of his administration’s war against illicit financial flows and other sharp practices currently prevalent in segments of the nation’s foreign exchange markets.”
