The United Kingdom High Commissioner in Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, has expressed his admiration for the country’s advancements under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
During the 2023 Cabinet Retreat, UK High Commissioner Richard Montgomery praised Nigeria’s transformation into a regional and global powerhouse under the visionary reforms and multi-sector reorganizations led by the Tinubu administration.
He addressed ministers, presidential aides, permanent secretaries, and government officials, acknowledging the country’s economic, security, and social challenges.
Despite these issues, Montgomery expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s reform initiatives, considering them crucial steps toward overcoming the challenges at hand.
UK High Commissioner Montgomery praised Nigeria’s potential as a growing global powerhouse and acknowledged President Tinubu’s plans for economic stability and growth. He assured unwavering UK support, emphasizing mutual respect and partnership between the nations across various areas. Montgomery expressed his best wishes and goodwill for Nigeria’s future endeavors.
Montgomery acknowledged Nigeria’s significant challenges in security, economy, and society while praising President Tinubu’s courageous economic reforms and leadership in ECOWAS. He commended Nigeria’s active participation in the G-20 and its advocacy for democracy on the international stage.
Montgomery emphasized the historical ties and mutual commitments between the UK and Nigeria, stating, ‘Nigeria really matters to the UK; we share history; we share a commitment to democratic politics, we share interests in defense and security and trade and investment.
