The newest featured artist in Apple Music’s Africa Rising artist development program has been revealed as Ghanaian singer-songwriter Moliy.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
Moliy will get editorial support through the initiative, including playlisting and showcasing, which will help her reach a wider audience with her songs.
In response to the announcement, Moliy said:
“What an honor it is to be the next Africa Rising artist. This moment right now is everything I’ve been praying for, from Ghana to Africa, from Africa to the whole world! I’m hoping this shows young girls everywhere that their dreams are valid, to be brave and not cower amongst any naysayers. Thank you for seeing and hearing me.”
Deeply impacted by her rich Ghanaian heritage, Moliy was inspired by the many, rich genres of Afrobeats, reggae, soul, jazz, and hip hop throughout her formative years while traveling between Accra, Ghana, and Orlando, Florida, and was motivated to pursue a career in music as a result.
Her first EP “Wondergirl” (2020), which included the dance floor-oriented tune “Ghana Bop,” was her entry into the Afro-fusion scene. She swiftly followed it up with a notable appearance on Amaarae’s mega-hit single and remix “SAD GIRLZ LUV MONEY.”
Her first album, “Honey Doom” (2022), features her ethereal, psychedelic voice and highlights her career and emotional development as a young lady navigating life’s ups and downs. The album’s standout track, “Hard feat. Moonchild Sanelly,” is an Afrobeats-infused power anthem.
The Africa Rising playlist and unique artist development program on Apple Music are designed to find, promote, and elevate up-and-coming talent in Africa and introduce the continent’s future superstars. The other honorees are Omah Lay, Manu Worldstar, Tems, Amaarae, Ayra Starr, Yaw Tog, Nikita Kering, Buju, FAVE, Nomfundo Moh, Victony, Gyakie, Venom & Shihiliza, and now Moliy.
