Three migrants who were stowed away aboard a ship that landed in the Canary Islands from Nigeria have been saved by the Spanish coast guard.

The coast guard posted a picture of the group on Twitter on Monday, November 28, 2022.

They may be seen seated aboard the Althini II, an oil and chemical tanker.

After an 11-day journey from Lagos, the ship landed at Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, according to Marine Traffic.

The government verified that the migrants were brought into the port and given medical attention.

For African migrants trying to get to Europe, the Canary Islands are a well-known route. According to Spanish data, maritime migration to the archipelago increased by 51% in the first five months of the year over the same period last year.

The Nigerians’ names and identities are still a mystery.

The Nigerian government has not yet commented on this situation.
