Six Nations Secure Automatic Qualification for 2030 FIFA World Cup

BY ADEKE CHUKWUKA

FIFA confirmed on Thursday that Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay will receive automatic qualifying spots for the 2030 World Cup. These three South American nations will host the tournament’s opening games, contrary to the previous announcement that only Morocco, Portugal, and Spain would have automatic qualification.

Today, it was disclosed that Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay will be exempted from qualifying for the 2030 World Cup. This decision allocates “three of the six places” for the South American zone, considering the tournament’s expansion to 48 teams in 2026. Additionally, a South American team will have the opportunity to qualify through a playoff with a team from another continent, as stated by a FIFA spokesman.
