Commercial motorcycle activities in six local governments in Lagos State were completely outlawed on Wednesday, according to the state.

From June 1, no commercial motorcyclists will be permitted to operate in any area of Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, or Apapa local councils, according to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“This is the phased banning that we are going to be embarking on so that others will know that in a short while it is either they get out or look for something else to do,” Sanwo-Olu said at a meeting with police area commanders and DPOS at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

This comes after motorcycle riders lynched sound engineer David on Sunday.

David was allegedly killed and burnt to death by a mob of Hausa men following a misunderstanding about a N100 balance with a commercial motorbike known as an Okada rider.

It was discovered that things became heated, resulting in a confrontation between David and one of the commercial bikers.

According to reports, the situation quickly devolved as additional motorcycles descended on David and his pals, beating them senseless.

The event occurred a few days ago in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
