The state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State was taken seized by armed police personnel on Thursday, May 5, 2022 morning.
Staff and guests were barred from entering the premises on Finbars Road in Umuahia by security officers.
Fabian Nwankwo, the Abia PDP’s Publicity Secretary, said the party’s workers and officials had been told to take a day off and rest at home.
Since Tuesday, May 3, 2022, there have been demonstrations and counter-protests at the PDP secretariat, after internal party disagreements over the three-man delegates’ congress.
Some demonstrators accused the party’s state leadership, led by Asiforo Okere, of compromising and plotting to manipulate the process in favor of an anointed governorship contender.
On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, however, a massive mob invaded the office in sympathy with Okere-led leadership.
This disagreement resulted in the presence of police officers at the PDP headquarters in Abia this morning, with one of them claiming to be there on ‘command from above.’
