According to Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, the ongoing Agro-Cargo Airport project in the Ikenne Local Government Area of the state along the Ilisan-Iperu route should be prepared for commercial aviation operations by December.
Abiodun disclosed this to reporters soon after assessing the quality of work at the cargo airport, according to a statement released on Monday by his chief press secretary, Mr. Lekan Adeniran.
Additionally, the governor stated that since numerous foreign aviation businesses are already competing for concessional operations, the state government will rapidly recover all of its costs associated with this project.
He went on to say that the facility would be turned over to the state in the following six months, at which point the money spent on it would be recovered.
Abiodun said, “I’m sure that in the next 30 to 45 days, we should sign the dotted lines of the concessioning of this airport, which would mean that everything the airport has cost us would completely be repaid back to us, and we can use the money to pay our debt and also begin to look at other projects.”
“This airport, sometime by the end of November or December, would be fully granted approval. Commercial operations would start here. It means that you can board a flight to Abuja, Port Harcourt, and I am sure that by the end of the year, you will begin to see international flights leave wherever and land in this airport by the grace of God,” he said.
He also said that the government is building a world-class international airport, de-risking the project to avoid waiting for others to build it. Instead, they sought funding, built the airport, and subsequently leased it to others, de-risking the project.
The airport is now attracting interest from international airport operators worldwide. The government’s initiatives, vision, dedication, and determination have paid off, with the airport receiving interest from international operators.
The government’s commitment to maintaining focus and avoiding distractions from politicians and backstabbers is proving successful.
