On Monday, October 4, 2021, the Department for Transport stated that COVID-19 vaccination certificates issued in Nigeria will not be honored in the United Kingdom.

Nigerians have complained frequently in recent weeks that despite being properly vaccinated, they are nevertheless subjected to harsh restrictions while traveling to the UK.

Nigeria was not included on the list of 50 countries that recognize vaccination certificates, despite officials pledging to remove the restrictions shortly.

The US, Spain, Canada, France, Italy, and Israel are among the countries named. The list did not include any African countries.

Nigerians who are fully vaccinated but travel to the UK would still be asked to pay for COVID-19 testing and a 10-day quarantine.

Almost five million people have received at least one dose of the AstraZeneca or Moderna vaccinations, with over two million receiving two doses.
