Nigeria looks to have joined the growing list of nations across the world that have banned the latest Marvel superhero film ‘The Eternals.’
The film, which was set to premiere in Nigerian theatres on November 5, has been pulled from showing schedules, according to several internet reactions.
The National Film Video and Censors Board (NFVCB), which has maintained a zero tolerance policy for LGBT material in Nigeria, has yet to comment on the unexpected cancellation of showtimes.
The film, directed by Chloé Zhao, has provoked a global backlash, with nations such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait banning it after Disney allegedly refused to edit a same-sex kiss.
In an interview, Zhao expressed her hope that the film would not be banned anywhere in the world, allowing viewers to get the “whole experience.”
Brian Tyree Henry and Haaz Sleiman share a passionate kiss in this contentious moment.
Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, and Kit Harrington star in ‘The Eternals,’ it’ll be the first Marvel movie to openly promote a same-sex relationship.
