Mr. Ovie Agas, Chief of Staff of Delta State Government House, and nine commissioners have quit their positions.
News Agency of Nigeria
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, made the announcement at a news conference in Asaba on Wednesday.
He stated that the resignation was in accordance with Electoral Law section 84 paragraph (12) regarding political appointees seeking elected seats.
He stated that the chief of staff resigned so that he could participate in the election as a statutory delegate.
He claims that nine commissioners and other political aides have quit in order to run for various political offices.
Aniagwu also revealed that Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa addressed an expanded gathering of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state chapter on Tuesday, where he promised a level playing field for all party primary hopefuls.
He stated that the state party leadership is working hard to guarantee smooth primaries, and that the relationship between former Gov. James Ibori and Okowa has remained friendly.
Former governors James Ibori and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, according to the commissioner, were present at the stakeholders meeting.
Concerning the zoning of governorship and presidential tickets, the commissioner stated that the party has never zoned the ticket to any senatorial district or geographical zone throughout its primaries since 1999.
According to him, it has always been accessible to any interested party gubernatorial or presidential primary candidates.
He did, however, warn against zoning, stating that the country currently need the finest hands to give democratic rewards to the people.
