UK police arrest Senator Ekweremadu, wife Beatrice Nwanneka, for human trafficking, organ harvesting 

The United Kingdom’s Metropolitan Police has arrested Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka, over human trafficking and organ harvesting.

The charges levelled against the Ekweremadu’s include conspiring to bring a child to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting. Mr Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, have been remanded in custody and will appear in court today at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court.

“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting,“ The Met Police said. “Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting. They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today.”

According to the Metropolitan Police, it was discovered after an investigation by its Specialist Crime squad.The authorities have announced that the child is safe.

An inquiry into the Ekweremadu’s affairs began in May, after investigators received a tip about possible violations of the modern slavery statute.

On Thursday afternoon, Mr Ekweremadu appeared before a court and was turned down for bail. The child involved was later revealed to be a homeless 15-year-old from Lagos, and the case was subsequently postponed until July 7, according to Peoples Gazette.

A representative for Mr. Ekweremadu, Uche Anichukwu, confirmed that his principal had been detained in the UK.
