EFCC Intercepts 21 Trucks Distributing Food to Nearby Countries

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized 21 trucks carrying food intended for neighboring countries amidst Nigeria’s ongoing food crisis.

The food items were being transported to N’djamena, the Central African Republic, Chad, and Cameroon, according to the EFCC, when they were found in Maiduguri.

The agency said, “The trucks were intercepted in a sting operation at major exit routes along Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads, Borno State.”.

“Investigation showed food items cleverly concealed in the trucks that would have gone undetected but for the eagle-eyed vigilance of operatives of the Commission.

“Further checks showed that the waybills covering the goods carried by trucks indicated their destinations as N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic, and Cameroon, respectively.”

The suspects will face charges in court as soon as the investigations are finished, according to the anti-corruption agency.

This comes after food prices have been rising, which has recently led to isolated protests and warehouse looting in the nation’s largest cities.

The federal government recently pledged to start distributing grains across the country this week in an effort to address the situation.

In the meantime, Nigerians have been urged by President Bola Tinubu to exercise patience with his administration’s economic policies.
