Jeff Bezos has surpassed Elon Musk to once again become the world’s richest person.
Bezos has a $200 billion fortune thanks to his stake in Amazon, according to data from Bloomberg.
Musk has lost $31 billion so far this year as Tesla’s stock price has declined 28%.
Bezos’ wealth exceeded Musk’s by $2 billion, according to data from Bloomberg. For the first time since October 2021, Bezos holds the title of richest person in the world.
Bezos’s ownership position in Amazon, which was valued at $167 billion on Monday, accounts for about 84% of his total wealth. With Amazon’s stock rising roughly 15% this year, Bezos has amassed $23 billion in wealth thus far.
Bloomberg says Bezos has an additional $18 billion in cash on hand and a $15 billion stake in Blue Origin, which make up the majority of his wealth. Last month, Bezos sold $8.5 billion worth of Amazon stock.
Musk’s wealth decline is set to continue on Tuesday, with Tesla stock declining by about 4% due to concerns surrounding the EV maker’s exposure to China’s weakening economy.
Musk’s wealth is derived from his $77 billion stake in Tesla, as well as his $71 billion stake in SpaceX. Other ventures, including X, Neuralink, and The Boring Company, round out Musk’s total wealth exposure.
After Bezos and Musk, the next richest person in the world is Bernard Arnault, owner of luxury goods company LVMH, who has a net worth of $197 billion as of Monday. The top five richest person ranking is rounded out by Mark Zuckerberg, who has a $179 billion net worth, and Bill Gates, who has a $150 billion net worth.
