According to Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, 99 percent of passport applications have been automated.
He claims that the new passport application process will launch the following week.
The minister stated that this would imply that applicants would visit immigration passport offices solely to provide their biometric information.
Tunji-Olo stated during her Tuesday night appearance on Channels Television: “We gave a date. December, we said. That’s what we said. We’re almost done—99 percent, I can assure you. We have actually completed the testing.
“We plan to go live sometime in the upcoming week. That would guarantee that Nigerians would only need to provide their biometrics at passport centers, as I mentioned. All we need to do is take your fingerprint.”
“Every other thing will be done in the comfort of your home, including uploading your passports. It would have come live about two weeks ago but I saw some errors when they came to do the presentation, and I said no.”
