Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, is a well-known artist who was purportedly freed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) after more than 72 hours in custody.
According to a Premium Times story, the artist was freed on Friday in the afternoon, and the ICPC could contact him again later.
The singer reportedly cooperated with the Commission during their investigation, which led to his release.
D’banj was freed on supervised probation, according to his attorney Pelumi Olajengbesi, who was unable to clarify whether the ICPC had granted the singer administrative bail.
Additionally, he stated that no proof of fraudulent behavior was linked to the singer by the ICPC.
“Nothing incriminating was found on him. He was released on self-recognition. Right now, we expect the ICPC to give a letter of clearance to Dbanj because, as we have always said, he is innocent of the charges brought against him,” the lawyer said.
The anti-graft organization, however, reportedly received significant financial information on the incident from two Nigerian banks, according to Premium Times.
After multiple contacts from the commission went unanswered, the singer was taken into custody by the ICPC on Tuesday.
Later, it was revealed that he is being looked into for allegedly diverting money intended for the federal government’s N-Power project. an initiative that was started in 2016 to address the nation’s unemployment issues.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission accused singer D’banj of engaging in fraud, although he has refuted these claims (ICPC).
The musician believes that individuals who could have an interest in his misery are somehow out to get him and are either hating him or blackmailing him specifically.
The defense attorney for Dbanj stated that his client is totally willing and eager to work with investigators to the fullest extent allowed by law in order to learn the truth about this situation, “which we take pretty seriously,” and he referred to the accusations as absurd and deliberate publicity.
The suspected fraud in the N-Power program was referred to the ICPC for investigation, according to the federal ministry of humanitarian affairs, crisis management, and social development.
Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the permanent secretary of the ministry, stated in a statement that there have been certain shortcomings in the payment procedures for N-Power recipients, necessitating the invitation of the ICPC for inquiry.
In his words, “when it came to our notice that there may have been some sharp practices by some personnel of the Payment Service Provider involved in the payment processes of beneficiaries, the matter was immediately referred to ICPC for a thorough investigation. We are aware that certain persons have consequently been invited for interrogation as part of the ongoing investigations.”
The singer has currently been freed from the commission’s custody. We’ll provide you with more specifics later.
