The artist’s planned concert is likely postponed due to his recent detention

Seun Kuti’s performance in Spain is in jeopardy due to his most recent detention.
According to Sahara Reporters, the Afrobeat singer was set to play in Majorca, Spain, today, May 20, 2023.
The musician has been held by police for an additional four days after an extension to allow more time to investigate his case, so it looks like this is on hold.

After bringing himself in for attacking a police officer on duty on the Third Mainland Bridge on Saturday, May 13, 2023, Kuti was taken into custody.
The musician is seen repeatedly shouting at the police in the viral footage before striking him in the face.
Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, issued a statement shortly after the video appeared on social media demanding the musician’s arrest.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.
“The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly,” the statement read.
He was then charged in court with violating Section 356 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The police will hold Kuti until May 23, 2023.
