Portable Teases New Single After Being Released From Police Custody

After being released from police prison, street-pop star Portable teased a new single.

By Omotayo Olutekunbi

Portable was detained on the evening of Friday, March 31, 2023, after the 72-hour ultimatum to honor the police invitation expired. This followed an incident documented in a viral video in which the musician was seen battling off police officials dispatched to arrest him at a leisure center he runs in Ogun State.

He cursed the cops on the video, claiming they had no basis for invading his business center without a prior request.

The arrest was prompted by a petition signed by his former signee Manny Monie, who claimed Portable broke into his studio, damaged his recording equipment, and assaulted him.

The musician was charged in court yesterday, April 3, 2023, on a six-count assault and theft of someone’s musical instrument allegation. He was given bail in the amount of N300,000, with two N300,000 sureties. The court ordered that both sureties had to own land near the court.

He will be held at the Ilaro Correctional Facility until he satisfies the bail requirement, according to the court, who delayed the case until April 26.

Portable took to his Instagram page on April 5, 2023, upon his release, to preview a new song about his run-in with the law.

The artist stated in the video, titled “Federal Government Liabiality,” that he was not a prisoner and expressed his admiration for the might of the legal system, which he said was second only to God.

The new track by Portable is inspired by Naira Marley, who notably published his popular song “Soapy” during a brief stint in Kirikiri Prison.
