Paul Okoye Reacts To The Oscars Incident Involving Will Smith

‘Naija comedians go calm down a bit’

Nigerian artist Paul Okoye predicts that Nigerian comedians would follow Chris Rock’s path in the future.

On Sunday, March 27, 2022, actor Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars.

PSquare’s member revealed that comedians will suffer a similar fate in a post uploaded on his Instagram Stories, claiming that Nigerians are known for their “copy and paste” mindsets.

“Naija comedians go calm down a bit. Will Smith don open doors for some people. Please do not allow yourself to be used as the Naija version of the Oscars. Naija sabi copy and paste,” he wrote.

During the awards show on Sunday night, Rock walked to the stage and made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada, having a bald head.

“Jada, I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it,” However, after first laughing at the prank, the “King Richard” star became irritated.

Smith approached Rock and slapped him across the face. “Wow, Will Smith just knocked the s–t out of me,” Rock answered a few seconds later, before justifying what was “just a ‘G.I. Jane’ joke.”

The Oscar winner, though, was having none of it and screamed once more, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.”

“That was the greatest night in the history of television,” Rock remarked.

Several celebrities from around the world have given their thoughts on what might be one of the year’s most anticipated entertainment events.
