With the release of his song “Lonely At The Top,” Nigerian superstar Asake has accomplished yet another historic milestone.
After an unheard-of one-year reign in 2022, Asake continued to rule with the release of his sophomore album, “Work of Art,” which produced numerous singles that reached the top of the charts.
Asake’s “Lonely At The Top” has made another huge step forward by becoming the song to spend the most time at number one on TurnTable Top 100, Nigeria’s only aggregate chart system that incorporates radio, TV, and streaming platforms.
The mid-tempo song, which explores the isolation and mistrust that come with success, spent a total of 12 weeks at the top of the chart without a break, making it the longest song to hold that position since TurnTable began compiling data in 2019.
‘Lonely At The Top’ broke the previous record of the 11th week it shared with Omah Lay’s 2020 hit single ‘Godly’ by spending a total of 12 weeks at the top of the chart.
Asake established himself as one of the top names in Afrobeats when he dropped his breakthrough track, “Omo Ope,” in January 2022. Consecutive chart-topping singles were released to accompany his ascent to fame, which he triumphantly concluded with the publication of his record-breaking debut album, “Mr. Money With The Vibe.”
With the publication of his sophomore album, “Work of Art,” in 2023, Asake maintained his remarkable run and announced his historic appearance at the illustrious 02 Arena.
In less than 20 months, Asake achieved his first mainstream hit single and sold out the 20,000-seat O2 Arena, making his achievement nothing short of a fairytale.
With “Lonely At The Top,” Asake extends his record as the artist with the most No. 1 songs and the musician who has remained the longest at the top of the chart. It also makes ‘Lonely At The Top’ the longest number one single of all time in Nigeria.
