Burna Boy, a Nigerian megastar, made history by selling out the London Stadium.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
With his amazing music and compelling stagecraft, Burna Boy is one of the musicians pioneering the exporting of Afrobeats to a worldwide audience.
Burna Boy became the first African musician to sell out a stadium in the United Kingdom as 60,000 people attended his performance at West Ham United’s stadium.
The performance, which took place on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, is significant for Afrobeats since it depicts Burna Boy’s stratospheric climb to worldwide popularity and Afrobeats’ rapid growth.
Burna Boy has confirmed the event as part of his ‘Love, Damini’ World Tour.
The London Stadium event is exciting for Afrobeats fans and stakeholders in the Nigerian music business, who have seen the genre go from selling out theaters to the O2, and now a stadium.

Burna Boy delighted fans with his popular songs, including the mega-hit ‘YE,’ which the stadium enthusiastically sang along to.
Burna Boy’s worldwide ascension began in 2018 when his track ‘YE’ drew the attention of global fans because Kanye West called his album the same.
Burna Boy has since been one of the major musicians in bringing Afrobeats to a worldwide audience, and he has become one of the world’s greatest music sensations. When he won a Grammy for his album ‘Twice As Tall’ in 2021, he became the first major Nigerian musician to do so.
Burna Boy just received two Grammy nominations: one for his song ‘Last Last,’ nominated in the Global Song category, and one for his sixth album, ‘Love, Damini,’ nominated in the World Album category.
Burna Boy continues to set the pace as the artist driving the worldwide push of Afrobeats with his performance at the London Stadium.
