The Batman has finally arrived in cinemas, and — to no one’s surprise — it has earned the best opening weekend and the highest foreign industry opening of 2022 thus far, grossing $248.5 million in its first three days worldwide.
In Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Australia, the picture had the best opening of the epidemic era, according to Warner Bros. It also had Asia’s second-best pandemic start. Furthermore, The Batman is now the number one film in 73 of the 74 nations in which it has been released, accounting for 80% of the current international box office.
The film’s worldwide success was aided by the use of IMAX technology, which opened on 320 screens in 74 countries and grossed $7.3 million. This is the second-largest global IMAX weekend in 2022, following December 2019. The film had the largest DC weekend for IMAX in four markets: Sweden, Belgium, Argentina, and Curaçao.
As originally announced, The Batman grossed $128.5 million in its first weekend in the United States, giving it the biggest opening weekend in the year 2022. It’s also the only one of two films to gross over $100 million in the United States since December 2019.
This is Reeves’ most successful opening weekend, both globally and locally. Furthermore, strong critical ratings and audience reactions across all major media outlets, including CinemaScore, where the critics’ score is an A- and the audience score is an A for the 18 to 24-year-old age bracket, undoubtedly aided the box office. Rotten Tomatoes also has a 90% audience rating and a 85% critics rating.
