Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s First Lady, will host the African First Ladies Peace Mission’s (AFLPM) General Assembly in Abuja on Monday.
Mr Aliyu Abdullahi, Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, made the statement on Saturday in Abuja.
Mrs Buhari is expected to perform the foundation laying ceremony for the Permanent Secretariat of the Mission, which will be attended by the visiting African first ladies, according to Abdullahi.
He added that after meeting with the Mission’s executive members, the first lady will declare open the Mission’s General Assembly, which will be attended by all delegates.
He also stated that the event would include a fund-raising dinner with the first ladies, captains of industry, and development partners in order to raise funds for the Mission’s development.
The AFLPM was founded in 1997 as an umbrella body of wives of African Heads of State and Government to support the African Union, regional organizations, and national governments in fostering peace and reducing conflict and its effects on the African continent, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The first ladies of Ghana, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Cote D’voire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Niger, Sao Tome and Principe, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, and Namibia are expected to attend the event, according to NAN.
