Major AJ of Chocolate City has returned with his first song of the year, ‘My Own,’ featuring one of Africa’s top hip-hop talents, Blaqbonez.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
Major AJ has had an impressive year delivering bars-laden covers on several chart-topping bangers and co-signs from notable names in the music scene. He has returned with this release to welcome listeners into a new musical journey for him as BadBoyMajor.
‘My Own’ is the follow-up to the successful first effort, ‘Retroverse EP.’ ‘My Own,’ recorded by renowned music producer Damie, is a mid-tempo song that expresses AJ’s dissatisfaction with the transactional aspect of love in most situations.
In this song, he portrays his realities and real-life experiences via well-crafted lyrics and flawless delivery, using the metaphorical city of Lagos as the center of his disillusionment.
On their new song, ‘My Own,’ Major AJ and Blaqbonez produce a sonically impressive tune where Blaqbonez’s style of rap merges with Major AJ’s sweetened voice depicting their #NoLoveInLagos message to his audience.
Blaqbonez provides his signature swaggering rhymes while Major AJ creates a catchy tune as the two Chocolate City artists team up for a soon-to-be hit.
