Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam singles winner and tennis great, confirmed her second pregnancy on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Met Gala.
Williams walked the red carpet alongside her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and told reporters at the New York Fashion Week presentation that “three of us” were there.
Olympia, the couple’s first child, was born in October 2017. Last year, the 23-time major champion stated that she was “evolving away from tennis,” stating in a Vogue magazine essay that she wanted to start a family.
Williams revealed her excitement in a TikTok post on getting invited to the Met Gala by her close friend and Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. “I was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala,” she said.
Williams is presently married to American entrepreneur and businessman Alexis Ohanian. The pair met by chance in Rome in 2015, while Williams was participating in the Italian Open, and they have been dating ever since.
They got engaged in December 2016 and married in November 2017, barely two months after their daughter Olympia was born.
