The Southeast Destiny Movement for Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2023 (SDMBAT) has said that it supports Tinubu’s presidential bid in 2023.
News Agency of Nigeria
Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, has the credentials to lead Nigeria’s affairs from 2023, according to SDMBAT
At a press conference in Awka on Thursday, SDMBAT’s Convener, Chief Ekene Enefe, affirmed the group’s support.
Tinubu, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was characterized by Enefe as a nice guy who deserved to be congratulated for his efforts to improve the country.
He said the panel had evaluated Tinubu’s contribution to Nigerian politics, the economic and infrastructure foundation he constructed in Lagos, and, most crucially, the manpower he developed during and after his tenure as governor.
Tinubu, he claims, is one of the most detribalized Nigerians, having appointed people from all across the nation as governor.
“He is one man that believes in merit, if you have the competence he is looking for, he engages you, that is the kind of man Nigeria needs now,” he said.
SDMBAT, according to Enefe, endorsed the request since the country need talent, competence, experience, and national acceptability in the future president.
He stated that while having a president of Southeast ancestry was not a bad idea, it should not be led by self-serving politicians and ethicists.
”I don’t think we need ethnic champions now, what we need in Nigeria is a good leader who is informed, can harness and allocate the resources of the country equitably.
“We cannot continue to advocate for a president that is based on ethnicity. There was a time when people from southeast occupied good positions in government but it did not translate into improved infrastructure in the region.
“As a matter of fact, some of the champions of the president from southeast extraction are doing it for selfish reasons.
”How have they used their former opportunities to better the lot of the people in their immediate environment,” he asked.
SDMBAT, according to the convener, is mostly made up of youths who are passionate about national cohesion and growth and have a grassroots presence in the southeast.
He said that the organization had touch with every village in the southeast, it had been around for a while, but that it had opted to give Tinubu a platform because he offered a better opportunity for the APC and better leadership for Nigeria due to his demonstrated expertise.
