Forbes recently unveiled a new list of top schools outside the Ivy League, citing ongoing anti-Israel protests on Ivy League campuses.
Forbes claims that the publications brought attention to a change in reputations and named these institutions the “New Ivies” after evaluating replacements using a variety of criteria, among them the disqualification of traditional Ivy League and Ivy-plus colleges.
Among them, the University of Florida stood out for its handling of rule-breaking protesters, earning praise for its stance from university spokesman Steve Orlando.
Complaints concerning these colleges have surfaced in the past few years. They said that the admissions policies of the colleges prioritised selecting individuals with specialised abilities over intelligent, well-rounded students.
There has also been discussion regarding Harvard and Yale having too high grades. Additionally, there have been complaints recently regarding the way the institutions handled anti-Gaza protests.
According to Forbes, by observing the news, one could discern a palpable unease on Ivy League campuses.
It stated that these universities have been under fire for their grading schemes, admissions procedures, and management of on-campus demonstrations.
Therefore, the process used comprised eliminating Ivy-plus and traditional Ivies, leaving a pool of 1,743 colleges.
Criteria included high standardized test scores and selectivity measures, alongside surveys of hiring managers.
The list that results features prestigious universities like the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins in addition to those that are becoming more well-known, including Binghamton University in New York.
