The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been directed by the National Strike Court of Nigeria (NICN) to immediately halt the current industrial action and resume instruction.

Justice Polycarp Hamman ruled on September 21, 2022, that the strike violated Section 18(1)(2) of the Trade Disputes Act, which forbids their activity.

Justice Hamman asserts that the word “shall” in the Act denotes a requirement not to begin the strike until the outcome of the primary lawsuit before the court. He also claims that the strike has irreparably harmed the careers of several students in Nigeria.
