In Abuja on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, Cross Rivers State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, claimed he had received President Muhammadu Buhari’s clearance to start discussions ahead of announcing his ambitions to run for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He also stated that if former President Goodluck Jonathan emerges as the APC’s presidential flag candidate ahead of next year’s election, he will rally behind him.
Shortly after his visit with the President at Aso Rock Villa, Ayade told State House Correspondents about it.
He stated that he will begin conversations on a presidential candidacy in the near future.
Ayade expressed deep admiration for the former president and stated that if the APC awarded him the Presidential ticket, he would gladly support him.
Ayade went on to say that he was speaking with the President to seek advice as he prepared for the primaries next month.
He added, however, that he did not officially inform the President of his ambition to succeed him, but rather requested a permission to begin having conversations.
He said that the President authorised him to initiate conversations.
