DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer, said the timetable would assist police in ensuring security at all venues of political events.

Following the recent attacks on members of political parties during rallies in Nnewi and Nnobi by unknown gunmen, which resulted in four deaths and the destruction of several vehicles, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tony Olofu, has directed political parties participating in the state’s forthcoming governorship election to submit the schedule of their rallies to the command.
“The CP alluded to the idea that campaigns are an important component of the electioneering process,” he added. As a result, the police high command will be able to offer appropriate protection for the safety of participants at such events. This will also assist the command in deploying additional tactical and operational units, as well as traffic control officers, to critical places in order to maintain the state’s current public safety and order. In collaboration with sister security organizations, the teams are required to conduct security patrols, surveillance, traffic control, and patrols.
“This will undoubtedly prevent hoodlums from carrying out attacks on unsuspecting party members and adequately secure such events.” The CP, on the other hand, cautions officers who may be assigned to this task to maintain a high degree of professionalism and to act within the confines of the law.
“He also urged members of the public to coordinate and cooperate with police and other security services in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.”
