Lupita Nyong’o Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Late ‘Black Panther’ Actor, Chadwick Boseman

Lupita Nyong’o has paid a touching tribute to her friend and castmate Chadwick Boseman on the third anniversary of his death.

The Kenyan-Mexican actress shared a touching message to Chadwick on Instagram, noting how difficult it was for her to learn of his passing. She shared a 2018 black-and-white photo of the actor grinning in a Korean airport as a tribute to him.

In the caption she said, “Three years ago today, I experienced a singular pain at the news of @chadwickboseman’s death. The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again. This is a photo I took on film at the airport as we arrived in South Korea in 2018. We had just learned to do the baby heart with our fingers. Here Chadwick was adding his suave flare. We spent a glorious 72 hours there, and the memory fills me with so much joy.”

She spoke kindly to those in mourning, assuring them that they would all always remember him with affection.

Lupita said, “Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept. But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence. Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts.”

The actor from the Da 5 Bloods passed away in 2020 after a four-year struggle with colon cancer, and August 28, 2023, marked the third anniversary of his passing. Co-stars, other celebrities, and fans posted tributes to Chadwick on social media. The news of his death shocked Hollywood and the rest of the world at the time. This was particularly true given that he was still appearing in films at the time and that most people were unaware of his terminal illness.

He was most popularly known for his stellar acting as Tchalla in the movie Black Panther and the Marvel movie series, but also starred in other impactful movies like Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
