According to the FG, NIN will soon be required for additional services.

The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to extend the deadline for mobile phone customers to connect their National Identification Number (NIN) to their SIM registration records until March 31, 2022.
Last December, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) ordered telecommunications companies to disable all SIM cards that have not been registered with NIN by the end of 2020.
With the newest notification by the NCC on Friday, December 31, 2021, the cutoff date that was stated in October, the deadline has now been delayed eight times.
“Following the request by stakeholders, including citizens, legal residents and Nigerians in the diaspora, the Federal Government has extended the deadline of the exercise to the 31st of March, 2020
“This extension would enable the Federal Government to consolidate the gains of the process and accelerate the enrolment of Nigerians in key areas like the remote areas, diaspora, schools, hospitals, worship centres, and the registration of legal residents,” the agency said.
Isa Pantami, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, advised Nigerians and legal residents to finish their NIN-SIM linkage because more services would soon require NIN for identification.
With 71 million persons on record, the NIMC claims that the exercise has had a substantial influence on the rise of NIN issuance.
Enrolment centers have been established in over 31 additional countries to assist Nigerians living abroad.
