In response to the devastating loss of the Super Eagles to the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in yesterday’s World Cup qualifier in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, Dr. Larry Izamoje, Chief Executive Officer of Brila FM radio, stated that the players missed African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen and Williams Troost-Ekong.
And the shock loss to the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan yesterday, provoked the anger of men who have followed the progress of the national team.
Dr. Izamoje characterised the team’s performance as lacklustre, stating that the Finidi George-coached team lacked leadership on the pitch and had a lack of desire to win the World Cup.
Sports editors, who chronicle events on football, were also traumatised with the performance of the Super Eagles. They poured scorn on the players and the football house, NFF.
“My heart bleeds because we have lost a generation of golden players like Ademola Lookman not going to the World Cup.
“Green Eagles’ 1980 and 1994 Super Eagles’ squad members should leave our football alone. They belong to the past.” Ade Ojeikere said.
Adekunle Salami blamed the NFF for the ongoing scandal, saying everything was done based on sentiment.
Duru Ikhazuagbe said “It is very unfortunate to even think that Lesotho have more points than the Eagles.
“A team that is ranked 149 by FIFA, while Nigeria is ranked 30th in the world. What a shame!”
