Erling Haaland from Manchester City and Aitana Bonmati from Spain were awarded the UEFA Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year prizes, respectively, during a ceremony in Monaco.
The Norwegian striker Haaland scored an impressive 52 goals in 53 games, contributing significantly to Manchester City’s treble win in the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup. Meanwhile, Aitana Bonmati played a key role in inspiring Spain to victory in the recent World Cup.
In his debut season at Manchester City, Haaland’s outstanding performances earned him the men’s UEFA Player of the Year award. He was nominated alongside teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Lionel Messi for this honour.
Haaland, aged 23, expressed that he’s living his childhood dream and considers it something truly special to achieve this alongside his teammates when collecting his award.
Aitana Bonmati, at 25 years old, played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s Women’s Champions League victory and was recognised as the player of the tournament during Spain’s World Cup win in Australia and New Zealand.
She clinched the UEFA prize, surpassing her Spain teammate Olga Carmona and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, who scored the winning goal in the World Cup final against England.
Spain’s coach, Jorge Vilda, lost the women’s coach of the year award to England’s Sarina Wiegman. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola secured the men’s coach of the year accolade for guiding Manchester City to a treble victory.
